A CLOSER LOOK AT THE IMAGE BLOCK IN SQUARESPACE

Images are an extremely important part of any website. In Squarespace you can use image blocks to create an interesting web page using different image layouts and effects. In this video I take a closer look at the image block and its features. You will also find some instructions with screenshots for reference below the video to help you out.

This video applies predominantly to Squarespace Version 7.1, however there is information which remains relevant to Squarespace Version 7.0.
Published 26 February 2020.

Please note that information in this blog article & video relates to functionality within Squarespace V7.0 and the Classic Editor in V7.1, it is not relevant to those using Squarespace Fluid Engine.

A summary on the features of the Image block

Image 1: It is important to name your image correctly for SEO purposes, you may want to include your business name and an abbreviated description of the image.

Image 2: You can edit the visual appearance of your image within Squarespace by using the ‘Image Editor’.

Image 3: The Image Editor will open to full screen when selected. Here you can edit such things as the brightness, saturation and sharpness of the image in the levels panel. You can crop the image with the settings in the ‘crop’ panel. There are also different image filters that you can apply, such as making the image black and white, in the filters panel.

Image 4: In the ‘Design’ section of the image block you can choose from 6 ways to display your images, the collage version is shown in the example below. This enables you to incorporate text with an image in a dynamic way, such as overlapping or overlaying. The ‘Inline’ layout option displays the image only, with the potential to include a caption.

Image 5: When using design layouts with text you can include a button and add the clickthrough link within the image block. To edit the text on the button this is done within the image block pop-up, above the clickthrough URL link. You can edit the other text by clicking your cursor in the text area, a text editing pop-up will appear.

Image 6: In the ‘Animations’ section you are able to select from a number of options that allow you to animate your image, and text within the image block. Options include… fade in, slide up, slide from left, etc. If you are using a layout with text included you can select ‘custom’ to allow you to animate the image and text separately.
